I don't know if I want to because of the people who seem to
be running things nowadays, though. I have nothing against
them, they're just people I don't get along with well, and
at this point I'm an upperclassman and I'd feel odd geting
into an existing social group. (This isn't a criticism of
the Guild or anyone in it)

do you mean the High Council, or the GMs of games, or the people 
who are active that you know of?

who's on the high council. they're all nice people, I'm 
just not sure I want to work with them. Then again, maybe I 
can kill them ;)

My opinions aren't relatd to the stupid politicing. Just 
the social group. I don't know what the band of qux is.

You could always apply to a game with someone you get along with 
and say "Please cast me working with this person"; that might make it 
more fun / easier to get started.  GMs tend to honor those requests, 
if at all possible. 
 
Requesting to kill certain people also works, sometimes. ;)
