Self-Voice Evaluation by Tom Giordano for Kristin Linklater -------------------------------------- It's been an interesting semester so far for me. Having been exposed to the Progression before, and its specific vocabulary, I've found that I've been able to focus more attention to issues both larger and smaller than when I was at Shakespeare and Company. On the larger side, I feel like I now have a better understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the progression, and in particular the ordering of the different exercises. On the smaller side, I've been able to pay more attention to specifics-- recently I've been focusing on being aware of breath or vibration arriving at the front of my mouth, rather than being in my throat. In general, I feel that I have been honing my awareness of my body, and in particular my breath. I still have work to do, of course. Notably, I think keeping my belly loose is an area that I will need to focus on; I find my abdominal muscles engaged rather than relaxed fairly frequently. I've also noticed that, while my jaw tension is less that it has been in the past, I'm more aware of the tension in my tongue. I plan to keep paying attention to these areas, and hopefully that will help me to relax.
