Travels in China -- 2002

This past summer I spent 6 weeks revelling in others cultures in Hong Kong and then on the MAinland, where I visited Shanghai, Yangzhou, Xinghua, Suzhou, Zhouzhuang, Hangzhou, Beijing, and finally Shanghai again. On this page you can find pictures that I will gradually add to, and links to pieces I've written about my travels for Chinese Community Forum (CCF) and Sequential Tart.

In China I met wonderful people, many of who I may never see again. If any of you ever visit this page, I hope you will send me email at kdevries@mit.edu

Anyway, here's the part you are probably looking for; the pictures!

Me and Lokman Tsui
Here I am at University of Hong Kong with Lokman Tsui--we are looking at a turtle.

Me and Newton X. Liu
And here I am with Newton X. Liu, also at HKU. I think he was teasing me.

Seafood in Hong Kong
This is one of many dishes I enjoyed at the Yungkee Restaurant in Hong Kong.

Tai Chi Pudding
And here is that night's desert. So yummy! Thanks to Lokman's family for inviting me and Newton to share the celebration.

You can read all about my travels in Hong Kong and the start of my travels in the Mainland at CCF, just look in the travelogue section or search for my Chinese name, Yinshan Yuan. You also can read more at Sequential Tart by looking for my English name in the October issue in the Culture Vultures section.

I will keep adding to this section; I have more travelogues to write, and I have well over 100 pictures to sort through and scan. I will try to go chronologically; probably I will have to add more pages. Try checking back in about a week for updates.
