Tim Melbinger received a graduate degree in music from University of California at Irvine and is currently studying composition in the PhD program at Brandeis University. His compositions have been performed throughout the US including the Miami Young Composers Festival. Albany Records has recorded another of his compositions performed by the University of California Octagon Ensemble. His CD Chamber Music for Winds was recorded by 9 Winds Records. Melbinger composed music for Scarcity, in 1998, a dance about women and their relationship with food and body image.
