Synergistic action of innate and adaptive immunity against cancer using combination immunotherapies

Immunotherapies have shown great clinical progress in treating tumors, inducing an immune response that can potentially adapt itself to a changing pathology like that of cancer. We have recently shown that a combination therapy of serum-persistent IL-2 and an anti-tumor antibody can induce a potent immune response involving both the adaptive and innate immune system, resulting in significant tumor control during the course of treatment. We hope to elucidate the mechanisms involved in this anti-tumor response and using this knowledge, pursue the development of further combination immunotherapies which can provide durable and long-lasting cures.
