With a state-of-the-art cancer research and technology facility scheduled to open in December 2010, the Koch Institute is both changing the landscape and shifting the paradigm for cancer research in the 21st century.
In concentric circles, representing ripples of innovation, the Koch Institute will interact with a range of academic departments and fellow MIT-affiliated institutes such as the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and the Broad Institute, which brings the power of genomics to medicine. The next ring incorporates the more than 90 biotech and biopharmaceutical companies – several founded by MIT researchers or based on research conducted at MIT – that call Cambridge and greater Boston home. Beyond that are Boston's world-class clinical institutions, such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Children's Hospital Boston.
Supported by 15 core facilities that handle key research requirements, from flow cytometry to micro-array analysis, the Koch Institute will be the site of extraordinary collaborative activities every day.
