Catalytic head assembling protein in virus morphogenesis
About 250 molecules of a "scaffolding protein", not found in mature phage, catalyse the assembly of about 420 coat protein subunits into a precursor shell containing both proteins: in concert with DNA encapsulation, all the scaffolding molecules exit from the precursor shell to take part in further rounds of the same process.
