Field Trips

Since the beginning of the program, Fellows have taken field trips to learn about current research in science. Each year we visit Woods Hole, Massachusetts to learn about marine research. Since 2002, we have taken a winter field trip to learn about science in another country.


Knights in Puerto Rico
Costa Rica

We visited La Selva tropical rainforest and Arenal volcano on our trip to Costa Rica in January 2006.

Knights in Puerto RicoPuerto Rico

Fellows traveled to Puerto Rico in January 2005 to tour the world's largest radio telescope at Arecibo, visit research sites in El Yunque tropical rain forest, and experience first-hand the bioluminescent bay at Vieques.

Knights in MexicoMexico

In January 2004 the Fellows spent a week in Mexico, visiting scientists, touring archeological sites and visiting the wintering ground of monarch butterflies.

Cuba Cuba

The inaugural international Knight field trip was to Cuba, in January 2003. Through site visits and meetings with scientists, the Fellows learned about the health care system, biotechnology, urban agriculture and Cuba's science policy.

Woods Hole Woods Hole

Each fall, the Fellows spend a few days in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, visiting the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the Marine Biological Laboratory.
