starting with mostly-clean cache:

	cd /afs/athena/course/urop/gem/OldFiles/maps1
	pwd
	<displays ../gem/OldFiles/maps1>
	ls /afs/athena/course/urop/gem/maps1
	pwd
	<displays ../gem/maps1>

this can really confuse find/gfind, e.g. if you run it
as "gfind .. | xargs ls -ld"
