We've made it even more useful with a recent change that allows mget to get both ASCII and BINARY(8) files while in the TENEX mode. Previous to that change, the text files were useless. Now they come across with CRLF end-of-lines if you are in binary mode. That doesn't cause problems if you transfer them to your PC in binary mode so that additional CR characters are not added by Kermit. > 2) When I "get" individual files, the ".1" extention automatically gets > dropped off. When I "mget" many files, the ".1" is included. > 2A) Is there some way to MGET without getting the ".1" extentions?? Yes, it's a command in your user ftp program. Add these two lines before the mget: case nmap $1.$2.$3 $1.$2 > If there were a pattern matching/wildcard way to rename files > in UNIX, it wouldn't be so bad. A couple of days ago, I was introduced to a software product for the Commodore Amiga called "Amiga Trip Planner". It then could produce an itenerary for the entire trip including towns, highway numbers, exit numbers, and miles between cities. It was a very nice program. More specifically, I have a question about getting "seed values" for such a program. As is well known, random number generators require seed values. When a seed value is not supplied by the user, a canned program run on a mainfram usually uses the system clock to get the seed value. I want to duplicate such a procedure for a fortran program to be run on a personal computer. My problem then is the following: I want to call a "Numerical Recipes" random generator an arbitrary number of times in a program, and I don't want to force the user to supply it a seed value with each call. How can I solve this problem in a fortran program on a p.c.? I guess one option is to use the p.c. system clock. If you know how to get the time from the system clock in fortran on a p.c., please let me know. However, I have been warned that the program may run so fast such that I may get the same seed values in 2 or more successive calls. Any other ideas would strongly be appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration. Phil Rothman Dept. of Economics NYU ROTHMAN@NYUACF.BITNET ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Apr 90 08:42:46 EDT From: "Bruce H. We were using our own format for definition of our images along the lines of the Electronic Arts (EA) Interchange File Format (IFF). But with the need to be compatible with the PC based equipment, we came up with the need for transfering image files over to the PC and have them read into packages like Word Perfect, PageMaker, etc. I therefore started to search for the information on different file formats, GIF, TGA, TIF, IFF, etc. I decided on TIF as it was generic enough and supported by Microsoft, Aldus, and several other manufacturers. I then started to look for code (C source) to use to generate files and read files with on both the Amiga, PC clones, and now Unix boxes. I finally called Aldus who said they had the files on their BBS or available from them for media costs and mailing. I had a friend get the files from Compuserve for me. I received the files that were most important to me in the work that I was doing. Below is a listing of the files that I received from the Aldus Conference on Compuserve, plus a listing of the files that are available on the conference. In addition, please look for the file TIFF-50.ARC (PD1:) which contains the complete TIFF 5.0 document describing the format and it's usage. ------------------------------ Date: 14 Apr 1990 22:17-EDT From: JKAISLER@A.ISI.EDU Subject: TIF Tools Source code File upload Title : TIFF Toolkit Utilities Keywords: TIFF TOOLS SOURCE CODE PACKBITS BYTE SWAP HEADER DUMP This is the collection of source code and executable utilities for dealing with TIFF files.
