Lavanya Sharan I am a final year graduate student in Edward Adelson's laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Electrical Engineering & Computer Science department. I am also affiliated with the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab and the Brain and Cognitive Sciences department. My research interests lie at the intersection of human vision and machine vision. I am interested in understanding how humans perceive material properties of objects and surfaces i.e. how do people recognize the stuff that things are made of. Using psychophysics, we measure what humans can perceive about materials in the real world. We also build computational models that operate on images, in order to understand how humans (or a machine) might recognize materials. For more, see Research and Publications.
