the set-Winthrop Park

Winthrop Park has some odd design features. The only way to enter Winthrop Park is from the sides, which means that people coming from Grindles, the office building or Peet's Coffee (shown here) have to climb over the fence or walk around to the sides of the park.

In this picture, the uppermost fence piece is missing and you can see the path in the grass that people have worn from the door of Peet's into the park. Landscape designers call such a path a "desire path"-- an informal path that is created over time by people cutting across a space.

Several weeks after I took this picture, the fence was replaced, but the path remains.
