Fuse fans - any everyone else, for that matter - will certainly enjoy this book, particularly the beautiful color photos at the beginning showing sample color and paper combinations. Far from being simply another origami box book, this new title includes letterfolds and cards, vases and chopstick rests, and stars and snowflakes in addition to some nice boxes and variations.
The diagrams are, as always, well drawn and accurate.
Note: this book was published simultaneously in Japan and the US. The US title is "Home Decorating with Origami", ISBN 4880060597. Below is the table of contents from the Japanese version, which appears to be the same length and size as the English version, and therefore probably has identical content. I have not compared it to an English copy, so I cannot guarantee that the contents are completely the same, however.
Model | Notes |
letter fold 1 | simple rectangular letterfold from A/B-proportioned paper, with a color-change stripe variation |
letterfold 2 | square letterfold from A/B-proportioned paper, with a pinwheel-like shape on one side |

letterfold 4 | 6-sided (mostly rectangular, but with two corners "missing"), from A/B-proportioned paper |
letterfold 5 | rhombic, from A/B-proportioned paper, with color-change pinwheel shape on one side |
Card idea 1 | tato-like square card/gift-enclosure, from A/B-proportioned paper |
Card idea 2 | tato-like square card/gift-enclosure, from A/B-proportioned paper |
Card idea 3 | square card/gift enclosure (from A/B-proportioned paper for use with the "stoppers" (locking units), following |
Stopper: Crane, Iris | from a square, produces a flat crane or iris to lock the Card idea 3 cards |
Stopper: Carnation | from a square, produces a flat carnation to lock the Card idea 3 cards |
Stopper: Peach, Church | from a square, produces a flat church building, and an abstract peach with leaves (the example uses it to decorate a birthday card) |
Stopper: Heart | from a square, produces a flat heart to use as a stopper to lock Card idea 3 cards |
Stopper: Yacht | from a square, produces a flat sailboat to use as a stopper to lock Card idea 3 cards |
Crane chopstick wrapper | 15 cm square makes a properly-sized wrapper |
Butterfly chopstick wrapper | 15 cm square makes a properly-sized wrapper |
Fan-shaped chopstick rest | 7.5 cm square makes a properly-sized rest |
Picture Frame Coaster | Coaster with corner pockets into which you can insert a square picture or artwork |
Flower Vase cover | A4 paper; produces a cylinder with a nice pattern of raised and indented triangles, with variations |
Flower Vase cover 2 | A4 paper; produces a cylinder with a nice pattern of raised and indented equilateral triangles, with variations |
"Spring" folding Flower Vase cover | A4 paper; produces a tall box with spiral-pleated sections where desired |
Spiral Flower Vase cover | A4 paper; produces a cylinder with a spiral pleating pattern |
"V-cut" Chopstick rest | 6-cm square paper produces a properly-sized rest; contrary to the title (the translation of which I'm unsure of) there is no cutting, this is simply a V-shaped pleated form |
HANA ("flower") | a square-bottomed bowl shape with fan-like pleated sides; graduated sized ones may be nested for a beautiful effect |
"balalaika" | this produces a pleated shape that, I think, looks somewhat like the neck of a stringed instrument (hence the name.) There is a variation which produces a pleated mountain-shape, as well. |
5-pointed star | 5 square sheets; she recommends 6 cm square paper. There's a 10-pointed variation, also. |
Accessory Parts: 1 | 5 square sheets; these are added units for the 5-pointed star which form decorative tips |
Accessory Parts: 2 | 5 square sheets; these are added units for the 5-pointed star which form a woven pinwheel effect on the front. |
Accessory Parts: 3 | 5 square sheets; these are added units for the 5- (or 6-) pointed star, which form extended decorative points or added surface detail, depending on the size |
Accessory Parts: 4 | 5 square sheets; these are added units for the 5- or 6-pointed star, and add an overlapping-diamon shape to the star points |
6-pointed Star A, B | 6 square sheets; variations on a 6-pointed star, with various central flap details. The addition of the various "accessory parts" creates a range of snowflake patterns |
10-pointed star A-E | 10 square sheets each; variations on a 10-pointed star, plus additions from the "accessory parts." |
"Cake Box" 1 - Flower | A square, curved-top box lid with a flower in the center. (1 square piece for the lid, one square 1/4 of the lid size, for the flower) |
"Cake Box" 1 - No decoration | same as the first, with no space for the insertion of a flower or decoration |
"Cake Box" 1 - bottom tray | A square, shallow lower tray for the above tops; 1 square piece for the tray, 1 square piece to line it |
"Cake Box" 2 | A square box lid (based on the classic masu-box fold) with a space for inserting a flower decoration as in Cake Box 1. Box bottom is similar to Cake Box 1's bottom. |
4-sided Package | A-proportioned paper; a tall rectangular package (or wrapper) with a tato-style closure on top |
6-sided Package A, B | similar to the 4-sided, and with a variation to insert a flower into the top closure |
"Dice" Package | a one-piece cubic box, with variations for top decorations |
"Half-dice" Package | a one-piece box half the height of the cubic box, with similar possibility for variation of the top |
Trapezoidal Package | one-piece trapezoidal box, with top decoration |
Tulip Cup | two identical pieces inserted in each other form a tulip-shaped cup; one unit with the tips folded forms a box you can close with some of the lids from the previous boxes. |
