MIT's Multicultural Conference is a one-day retreat that focuses on bringing students together across race, ethnicity, gender, religion, nationality, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and other aspects of cultural identity. The conference offers a provocative day of workshops, speakers, community-building, action, and reflection centered around issues of culture, identity, and social justice at MIT and beyond

Come hear about the issues that are of current importance to fellow members of the LBGT and Ally community at MIT. We'll work together to make progress on the most pressing issues at hand. Anyone affiliated with MIT and LBGT-friendly is welcome to join and to participate.

Kellett Award Nomination DEADLINE!!
Friday, March13
Nominate someone for the 2009 John S. W. Kellett '47 Award! The Kellett Award recognizes any MIT individual or group for an exceptional and/or sustained commitment to creating a more welcoming environment at MIT, including but not limited to, improving the experience of lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender (LBGT) and questioning individuals. The award honors Kellett, whose spirited support has enabled significant improvements in the lives of members of MIT's LBGT community and the Institute as a whole. To nominate someone, write a letter describing the nominee's qualifications and accomplishments and send it to the Awards Committee in Room W20-549. (Or via email at awards@mit.edu) The deadline is Friday, March 13, 2009!


Support meetings

BATS meeting
Boston Area Trans Support (BATS) is a peer-run support group for college-age/twenty-something transgender people. The group is inclusive of people who are questioning their gender, are FTM, MTF, gender-queer, and those who prefer any other gender descriptor. The Network/La Red, a local non-profit organization dedicated to ending abuse in lesbian, bisexual women’s, and transgender (LBT) communities, seeks a Technical Assistance Coordinator to provide training on creating safe and accessible domestic violence services for GLBT survivors. R. Scott Hill Foundation Internship Grants
The Hitt Foundation provides grant funding for college and post-graduate students to receive compensation for skill-building interships at pro-LBGT 501(c) non-profit organizations. Undergraduates are invited to apply to the A.N.G.L.E. Southern California Internship, which sponsors an 8 week, 40 hours/week internship with an established 501(c)3 non-profit in southern California with a commitment to the advancement of LBGT equality. Post-graduate students are invited to apply to the Scott Hitt Internship in Leadership Development, which sponsors a 7-9 month, 40 hours/week internship. Undergraduate applications are due April 17th and graduate applications are due May 19th. More information at: www.scotthittfoundation.org

Resources at Campus Progress
Campus Progress is always interested in connecting our resources with student groups that continue to do exceptional work, but don't always have the resources to do it on their own. Our Advocacy department helps young people develop issue campaigns through the Action Grant program. The program provides training, leadership development, and a grant of up to $1000 to develop a campaign that effects change on their campus community. The Events team provides funding and resources to bring in speakers, spoken word performers, workshops, and trainings to campuses. For more information visit: www.campusprogress.org

True Colors' Sexual and Gender Minority Youth Conference
With more than 150 workshops to choose from, the conference offers something for everyone - and an unparalleled opportunity for those who work with children, youth, young adults, and families to grow their skills. Topics include “Born that Way? Exploring the nature/nurture continuum”, “From Toddlers’ to Teens: Providing Developmentally Appropriate Support to Gender Variant/Transgender Youth”, and more. Ithaca College Sport, Sexuality, and Culture Conference
The conference begins on March 18th with Tuti Scott, former Chief External Affairs Officer for the Women's Sports Foundation; followed by a keynote address from internationally known expert in the area of masculinity, sport, and sexuality, Eric Anderson. On March 19th former NBA player and author John Amaechi, will deliver the keynote address. The schedule includes 56 presentations from established scholars as well as panel discussions on these topics: Legal Issues: Sex and Sexual Orientation Discrimination, Sport, Media, Sexuality, and Culture, Gender, Race, Sexuality, & Culture, and Replacing Homophobia/Transphobia With Humanism in Sport Settings. Study on relationship satisfaction seeks participants
A researcher at Wayne State University seeks 120 Gay or Lesbian couples who have been living together for at lest 6 months to take a 25-45 minute online survey on relationship satisfaction. In addition, participants will be required to photocopy their right hands to mail to the researcher (postage will be reimbursed). Please email lmdillon@gmail.com with your (and your partner's) email address if interested. As an additional incentive to participate, a raffle will be held at the end of the study. Three $100 gift certificates to a restaurant of the winner's choosing will be awarded to three randomly selected individuals.

Study on male and female victims in hetereosexual and same-sex relationships
A doctoral student at Walden University seeks to examine differences in types of abuse/violence experienced, attachment style, and help-seeking behavior among both male and female victims of dating violence in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships among college students and create an awareness that both male and females in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships experience acts of abuse or violence by their dating partner.
