Water Chlorination in Honduras In January 2004, MIT graduate student Marta Fernandez Suarez and MIT instructor Amy Smith visited the town of Bonito Oriental, Honduras, which reported many problems with its community water chlorination systems. On that trip to Bonito, Amy and Marta helped a local plumber build a toilet-valve device to repair his non-functional community chlorination system. Now, the Water Chlorination group within FloodSafe Honduras team is working to disseminate the improved toilet-valve device to other communities in Bonito. Group members are also developing educational materials about water chlorination and working towards an even more elegant technology solution for Bonito's water chlorination needs. |
