Libernet and Libernet-D ----------------------- If you would like to read more about libertarian ideas and the activities of the Libertarian Party and other libertarian organizations, you may want to join Libernet, a multi-network communication facility. A companion facility, Libernet-D, provides for debate and discussion of libertarian ideas. (Join just Libernet if you are mainly interested in news and announcements, add Libernet-D if you are also interested in, and have the time to read, debate and discussion.) Both Libernet and Libernet-D are available in two subscription modes: batch mode and reflective mode. Batch mode subscribers receive one message every day, the "Digest", consisting of the most recent contributions to Libernet or Libernet-D packaged together according to RFC 1154. (If you don't know what this means don't worry about it; nothing special is required to receive batch mode messages). Reflective mode subscribers receive each individual message as it is posted. Subscribers can indicate which mode they prefer in their signup request; the default is batch mode. To join either Libernet or Libernet-D, send a message to: libernet-request@dartmouth.edu If you are on CompuServe, send the message to: >internet:libernet-request@dartmouth.edu This address is monitored by a server, which will send you an automatic reply describing user guidelines and subscription information. You may also access Libernet and Libernet-D through the LIBERTY echo on Fidonet, carried by about 50 bulletin board systems across the country (see accompanying list). These systems are available to anyone with a personal computer and modem. Access to Libertarian Party Files --------------------------------- Copies of the Libertarian Party Program, a statement of the LP's recommendations on some issues of current concern, and of the Libertarian Party Platform, a more comprehensive statement of the LP's position on a wide variety of issues, are available online. Compuserve: The Program and Platform are also available on CompuServe in the file library of the political debate forum ("GO POLITICS") internet anonymous ftp: site directory contact person ------------ --------------- --------------- think.com /pub/libernet taylor@think.com ftp.digex.net /pub/access/lphq lphq@digex.net ftp.lp.org /pub/lp jwd3@dehnbase.fidonet.org Regional, State, and Local Lists -------------------------------- California (statewide) ca-liberty@shell.portal.com California - San Diego sdlp@lumina.ucsd.edu California - San Francisco Bay Area ba-liberty@shell.portal.com Colorado (statewide) lpc@marketplace.com Colorado - Boulder County bclp@marketplace.com Utah utah-libs@xmission.com Washington liberty@jazzie.com MIT Libertarians Mailing List libertarians-request@mit.edu - "To add/drop yourself from one of our e-mail lists. We offer the following options: Announcements Only - We created this list for people with busy schedules who do not check their email often, but still wanted to be kept up to date on everything that is goining on with our group. Posting to this list is handled by officers only. 5-10 posts monthly. Discussion List - This is the generic libertarians list for MIT Libertarians. We hold electronic meetings with it, engage in general discussions and sometimes flames. 5-20 posts weekly. Both - To get both the announcements of local club activities and the discussions you need to be on both of the above lists. Distant or off campus members should not get the announcements list if they would generally not be able to participate in local activities." The LPUS Echo ------------- The LPUS echo/list is dedicated to discussion of Libertarian Party business at the national level. It is expected that the content will primarily be of interest to committee members, officers, staff, and contractors of the national LP and its state affiliates, but any LP activist, member, or even non-member is welcome to participate as long as comments are constructive and on topic. LP "business" means matters pertaining to the LP as an organization. Messages about the ideas of libertarianism, about other libertarian organizations, or about activities of interest to libertarians in general belong in Libernet/LIBERTY. "National level" means that messages should pertain to the national LP, to the relationship between the national LP and its affiliates, or to matters that would be of interest to LP organizations anywhere in the U.S.; messages about topics of purely local concern (i.e., within one state) should not be posted here. LPUS is available to Fidonet users as an echo. Sysops should set access to the area as seems appropriate to them based on the description above and the nature of their BBS; if the system has many non-libertarian users, it may be best to allow access only to LP members or by request, to avoid extraneous traffic being generated by people who are not familiar with the topic. LPUS is available to other e-mail users as a mailing list. To subscribe, send a request to: (from Internet) LPUS-request@dehnbase.fidonet.org (from CompuServe) >internet:LPUS-request@dehnbase.fidonet.org To post a message, send to: (from Internet) LPUS@dehnbase.fidonet.org (from CompuServe) >internet:LPUS@dehnbase.fidonet.org [Note: Libernet, Libernet-D, the LIBERTY echo, the LPUS echo, and, unless otherwise specified, the individual BBSs supporting these message and file facilities are not sponsored, financially supported, or controlled by the Libertarian Party. They are independent facilities which provide information about the LP along with other information. Views expressed on these facilities may not represent an official position of the Libertarian Party.] Libertarian Student Email Network --------------------------------- The purpose of the list, which will be moderated, is: o to gather and share ideas for outreach, events, PR, printed materials, strategies (eg, Nolan boothing), recommendations for speakers, etc. o to share accounts of which projects worked, which didn't, what might be done differently in the future, etc., o to spread news of special interest to libertarian students, perhaps including updates on libertarian campaigns and events of national and international interest, o to encourage and assist the founding of new libertarian student groups, o and to build a sense of world-wide camaraderie and community. To subscribe, send a request to: mcpherso@lumina.ucsd.edu, preferably giving some brief information about your club, the activities you've been involved in, etc. I request that membership be limited to one representative for each club. This will be especially important as the number of clubs grows. Note: "Clubs of one" are quite welcome; lone libertarian students might be especially desirous of such contact, and they might become inspired and encouraged to found a club themselves. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Directory of Computer Bulletin Board Systems Carrying Libertarian Message and File Areas 5 May 1994 The following Fidonet computer bulletin boards carry the LIBERTY echo, an international message facility for libertarian news and discussion.
