In May, 2004, a National Science and Technology Council Interagency Working Group on Manufacturing Research and Development was established to lead development and promote implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies for the benefit of the U.S, and to improve planning, coordination, and collaboration among federal agencies in key technology areas. One of these key areas is nanomanufacturing. This presentation is based on one given at this Interagency Working Group’s Open Forum held on March 3. It summarizes needs and challenges in nanomanufacturing that nine of the federal departments and agencies identified: Infrastructure Development and Standards; Design, Manufacturing Processes and Systems, and Instrumentation; and Workforce, Societal Impact and Environmental Health and Safety.
