  • Worked as intern in the Reservoir Geophysics group. Studied field applications of Virtual Sources technique, including extraction of accurate sub-salt P & S velocity profiles, feasibility study of salt flank imaging and sub-salt sediments imaging with a walk-away VSP (Vertical Seismic Profile) survey. Results provided important information for future exploration.

  • Worked as intern in the hedge fund research group at the Advanced Research Center. Prepared tools that apply machining learning to perform natural language processing. Investigated the possibility of predicting market sentiment as well as stock performance based on automatic analysis of massive amount of news and reports available.

  • Worked as intern in the Seismic Analysis and Property Estimation team. Studied the impact of angle-dependent attenuation on seismic imaging. Built mathematic models and developed inversion algorithms to best estimate attenuation from VSP (Vertical Seismic Profile) dataset. Results contributed critical information to processing work flow.

  • Worked as intern in the reservoir characterization group of Subsurface Imaging Division. Studied the impact of anisotropy on reservoir characterization. Performed numerical modeling and developed inversion scheme to obtain best estimation of rock properties from surface seismic data. New algorithm reduced processing time and improved prediction accuracy. Patent pending.

    Earth Resources Laboratory, MIT    Sept. 2002 ~ Present Cambridge, MA
  • Studied application of time-reversed acoustics and seismic interferometry for salt-dome flank imaging with walk-away VSP survey. Synthetic modeling showed promising future of this method. More modeling and field data experiments planned.
  • Investigated time-reversed acoustics/elastics theory and applications numerically. Developed method to estimate source depth/location and to characterize fault zones or scatters in the earth.
  • Analyzed the passive/active albedo measurements collected by Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter and the temperature/opacity measurements collected by Thermal Emission Spectrometer. Interpreted the abnormal radiance in late summer, which implies the deposition of water ice.
  • Set up data acquisition system and measured acoustic radiation pattern of dipole tool in water and scaled borehole models. Organized comparison and explanation based on the results.
  • Developed a genetic algorithm Matlab toolbox with graphic user interface. Applied this algorithm and toolbox in model inversion of seismic data.

  • Developed a complete experimental system to inspect the sub-harmonic performance of contrast agents and to investigate their application to ultrasound imaging in biologic mediums. Integrated lab equipment (motor controller, waveform generator, digital oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.) into one system with Labview from Texas Instruments. Designed software including equipment control interface, signal flow control, data acquisition, image processing, and results demonstration.
  • Designed and built a compound layer-structured transducer and all the subsequent electric circuits. Diagnosed the properties of the transducer and applied it in biomedical ultrasound imaging.
