Dinner Party 11/23/93 ...doggie run doggie chase kitty through dinner party through Mrs. Stranton's famous potato salad, through brie cheese and ritz crackers and the punch bowl oh no not the... this is where movies go to slo-mo Mrs. Stranton immediately apologizes for no reason maybe for the instability of her potato salad bowl maybe just because her dress is now potato salad color but she doesn't want anyone to think she's upset about it even though she's pretty pissed off a nice fabric but kindof sticky Mr. Jones is rescuing the turkey from the cat and the hostess does her very best to salvage the carpet while her husband shoos the naughty dog into the basement bellowing "Bad dog!" angrily mostly for the benefit of the guests who must not be able to hear as well as dogs can the dog looks pretty guilty already... the carpet is a total loss so they move from the living room to the dining room even though dinner isn't ready yet and everyone makes a point of not noticing while the hostess sets the table around them it's a dinner party and the table is set when you sit down at it Ms. Clark talks about how adorable dogs are and how that makes up for their terrible behavior and oh does she love her dog it's just a small dog so it can't knock over tables but even big dogs are wonderful! Mr. Travis grumbles something about all pets are a nuisance and his wife tells him to shush the hostess has come back with salad bowls for everyone... the turkey is deemed edible and consumed heartily and even Mrs. Stranton is jolly and deems the dishes "exquisite!" despite her gift's demise and the guests talk merrily almost till midnight before their children and the need to work the next day drive them home to bed they all say thank you oh it was wonderful as they leave the host and hostess tally up the losses: Mrs. Stranton's dress definitely destroyed and probably some other people's clothing seeing as everyone was sprayed with punch; the carpet in the living room won't ever be the right color of beige again and there are broken dishes... stupid dog and now they are going to have to shower their guests with apologies that the guests will have to refuse with statements like "Oh there's no need... I had a lovely time!" they might even have to offer to pay for Mrs. Stranton's dress
