Kerberos for Macintosh 4.0.3 OS X Installer Customization Requirements & Tips

Overview

In general, you may modify the Kerberos for Macintosh 4.0.3 OS X Installer source to suit the needs of your site. All you need to do is place the binaries where the installer expects, replace the edu.mit.Kerberos and Read Me files, and rebuild the installer! However, there are a few elements which all installers must contain, and we have a few tips on customizing.

Requirements

• You must not change the OS version requirements of the installer, in particular, do not install the components on Mac OS X 10.2 - they will not work there.
• Your installer must display the "Kerberos License" file on startup (this file is included with the distribution).
• You should make it clear in either the read me or splash screen that your installer is a localized version of the installer, and not the MIT distributed installer. You should also limit distribution of your modified installer to your own local community as much as possible.
• You should not change the install locations of Kerberos for Macintosh files, simply because Kerberos for Macintosh will probably stop working if the files are installed in different locations.
• The KfM Installer Mac OS X Read Me is provided as a guideline for creating your own read me. If you use a modified form of the Read Me, be sure to remove all references to MIT support phone number and addresses - MIT's HelpDesk does not provide support for Kerberos users outside of the MIT community.

Tips

• Be sure to read the Getting Started and Really Important Notes sections of the KfM 4.0.3 OS X Installer source documentation.
• Don't forget to update the edu.mit.Kerberos file with appropriate realm configuration for your site before building the installer! For details about how to do this, see the Kerberos Preferences on Mac OS X Documentation.
• Place your edited edu.mit.Kerberos file in :Put Binaries Here:--> Into Library:--> Preferences: , replacing the MIT one that is provided as an example.
• The Kerberos Preferences on Mac OS X Documentation also explains why there will be two edu.mit.Kerberos files on a working installation of KfM, and why the installer installs its one copy where it does.
