Kerberos for Macintosh 5.0 Release Notes

Kerberos for Macintosh 5.0 is a major new version of Kerberos for Macintosh for Mac OS X. It is only available as part of Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther).

Rewritten entirely in Cocoa
UI for getting addressless tickets (NAT mode) in authentication dialog
UI for getting renewable tickets and setting renewable lifetime in authentication dialog
Kerberos authentication dialog badged to show which application presented it
New realms can be entered directly into dialog (for DNS support)
Localized for French, German, and Japanese

Improved appearance and performance
New icon with better key status visibility
Support for setting defaults for addressless tickets, renewable tickets, and renewable lifetime
Optionally will automatically renew renewable tickets
Support for adding DNS realms in the Edit Favorite Realms dialog
Double-click on ticket entries to display ticket information window
Will work without a configuration file being present

Apple KDC based on MIT KDC ships with Mac OS X Server (includes integration with other services on Mac OS X server)
Standard MIT KDC binaries are included with Mac OS X client but not configured
kadmin, ktutil tools now included
Improved Windows interoperability: TCP support added to client libraries and KDC, RC4 crypto system, Microsoft set-password protocol
Support for DNS lookups of KDCs
Defaults to addressless tickets (if user hasn't already specified a default in their configuration file)
Kerberos configuration file can now be located in /etc/krb5.conf
Kerberos v4 now based on MIT's core v4 compatibility library
No longer prompts for Kerberos login in command-line environments
