The Saint, one of my inet pseudonyms, and the symbol for sending me email throughout this site.

There are some who will liken design on the web to programming. Understanding the markup language that is HTML is important to the proper construction of web sites, but it is not the sole concern.

Others will claim that design on the web is an art. To do so would condemn the web to the realm of the artists, both good and bad (mostly bad).

Ultimately, design on the web is a craft: It possesses techniques which can be learned through trial and error, and a paradigm which when followed, can produce meaningful results.

In your instinctive travels, you will come to find that the most important sites, the most impressive sites, the most "feel-good" sites, consistently display an understanding of the craft, very much like a good cobbler consistently creates or fixes footwear, or a carpenter constructs furniture.

Those with the skills will prevail
