MISSION:
The
Massachusetts
Academic
Games League
of America (MAGLOA),
like our
national
base, is a
non-profit
organization
dedicated to
developing
"Thinking
Kids" of
character,
excellence,
and
integrity.
The mission
of the
league is to
prepare
students for
learning
beyond the
classroom
and to get
them excited
about
academic
learning and
competition.
MAGLOA
teaches
students
from grades
6-12 how to
think, work
as a
cooperative
team,
compete with
honorable
sportsmanship,
learn from
concepts
beyond the
standard
classroom,
and strive
for
excellence
in academia.
The Academic
Games
tournaments
aim to
challenge
students to
use higher
order
thinking
skills in
the subjects
of Language
Arts,
English,
History and
Mathematics.
Players
receive
recognition
and awards
in the same
way that
sports
champions
are honored.
Each year,
the league's
goal is to
prepare
20-25
students for
the national
tournament.
In addition,
the league
aims to
increase
involvement
in the games
from
students,
teachers,
parents, and
schools. As
a long-term
objective,
MAGLOA hopes
to be
expanded to
school
districts
all across
the state of
Massachusetts
and to the
Middle
(grades 6-8)
and
Elementary
(grades 4-5)
levels.
