The Real Problem

• There is no free (as in speech) source of bibliographic info on the Internet.

• Option1: Z39.50 Servers

  • Advantages:

    • Lots of information has been entered.

    • Very good for older books, or foreign books.

  • Problems:

    • No central list of servers.

    • Not all servers allow outsider access.

    • Not always up.

    • The standards are very complex, and the tools are very primitive.
