The Real Problem

The real problem in trying do to a project like this is that there is no free (as in speech) and complete source of bibliographic information on the Internet.

I have found two options for getting this information:

The first is searching library's Z39.50 servers.

This has the advantage that a lot of information has already been entered, and it is particularly good for older books, or for foreign books.

However, there is no central list of servers, not all servers allow outsider access, and the servers are not always up. For example, some servers are only up during business hours in their location.

Working with Z39.50 is also difficult because the standards are very complex, and the tools are still very primitive.
