Billy, almost 10 years old, is looking forward to starting the 4th grade at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Kingston in a few weeks. We can't keep Billy in books. We spend our weekends at Borders as he reads all the time when he isn't swimming. Mary, who is 5 going on 15, can't wait to start Kindergarten in September. She is a little firecracker and refers to me as "Geek One" and Billy as "Geek Two". Needless to say, Lauren is more anxious for school to start then the kids are.
Everything is fine now but it's been a miserable summer. What started out as a minor back injury ended up with me contracting a nearly fatal staph infection along my spinal column. I was over three weeks in critical care and a rehab hospital. It took a while for me to be able to move my legs and walk again but gradually I went from immobility to a walker to a cane. I missed nearly three months of work but I'm much better and getting better every day.
Luckily, I look very dapper walking with a cane.
Lauren is looking forward to the humongous vacation I owe her next year to make up for the summer we had this year.
