We spent 2 months negotiating to buy a house -- half of a side-by-side duplex build around 1880. We finally reached a deal, learned Debra was pregnant, spent a year renovating, and moved in September 2005. We're not totally unpacked and are still taking care of some of our initial renovation tasks and constantly discovering additional work that needs to be done. Anyone is welcome to drop by -- in fact, Sam Lafontaine and Magaly did over reunion weekend last summer. We're only 6 blocks from the old place, between Central and Inman Squares.
I left Narad in January 2005 to join a mature wireless startup, Engim. In hindsight, not a great move because they closed in July. In the meantime, the writing was on the wall, and -- while in the labor and delivery suite on May 10, I had a phone interview for a position at a new startup, Radiospire, where we're developing a chipset for wireless HDMI delivery. We want to replace that ugly (and expensive) cable that feeds your plasma or LCD display with a small (and more expensive) dongle that you'll hide on the back. Things are looking good for our technology as we're working to deliver our 2nd-generation design in time for January's CES show in Las Vegas. After that we hope some customers will commit.
Radiospire's office is across the parking lot from Solidworks' headquarters. I got together with Jon Hirschtick a little while ago for lunch. They have some very cool toys around their office, including a custom "Orange County Cycles" chopper.
Debra has a new job, too. After nearly 10 years at Eaton Vance, she started at Commonwealth Financial Network this July. She's very happy about the people but now has a non-subway commute out to Waltham.
As I've hinted, we welcomed another boy to our family. Jeremy Asher was born early on May 11, 2005. We had some time to kill in the L&D suite, and were watching the finale of "The Amazing Race", rooting against Rob and Amber. I tried convincing Debra that "Uchenna" would be a great boy's name, but she would have none of it. Jeremy adores older brother Sam. Sam had a rough transition from only to oldest, but enjoys having the little guy around. Sam is now 4 and very interested in anything involving a ball or a car. He will only put on underwear if it's a licensed "Cars" (the movie) product. We're not looking forward to the school choice decision we need to make for him this fall. Jeremy is very happy at his bilingual (English-Spanish) family daycare and will transition to the Alef-Bet program, where Sam is now, in January.
