"In my stay in the Dragon's Tooth, I picked up >a few snatches of conversation here and there. People were talking >about the VierKrielle." I could almost feel my blue eyes sparkling at the >thought. > >Myce's eyes widened. "The treasure?" > >I nodded. "Uh-huh. Some think it's in Rastephon. More than one says >the old Sea Hag must know something about it. I don't know if y'all's >interested in treasure, but I been piratin' all my life and I'd never pass this >up!" I smiled sweetly and waited to see if my new captain thought I was >worth my weight. > Myce stuck out her hand. "Welcome aboard, Angel! Glad to have you aboard. Have you met all the others?" She took the little girl's hand, and led her around the ship. "Mer, Merwin and Damon are below decks, and this is Mat." Mat was a freckled faced, sunburnt boy. He shyly smiled at Angel, and shook her hand fiercely. "Werry nice to meet vou!" he said, lisping more than ever. The tips of his ears turned red with embarrassment, so he turned and began pointing out the other crew members. "There's Arturo, over on the side, losing his lunch." Mat whispered conspiritorially to Angel. "I don't vink he's ever been on a ship before. Myce brought him and Conk over there," Mat pointed at the boy with the black raven sitting on his shoulder,"onto the DarkWind at Dragon's Tooth. The rest of us come from Hamlin. Up in the rigging is Dug, he's the blond one, and Damon, he's the darker one. Brin is steering the ship." Mat frowned. "Hey, where's Dan? Anyone seen Dan?" "I haven't seen him since we landed." Dug responded. "Naw, not me." Damon replied. "He told me he was gonna get a present for Brin." Ruck countered. "Didn't he come back, Brin?" Brin started to cry. "I haven't seen him. Myce, what are we gonna do?" Myce looked upset. "We can't take the ship back. Don Leone is waiting for us." She looked over at Jacob. His brown eyes looked subdued behind the wire rimmed glasses. He pushed his glasses up his nose, and ran his hands through his dark brown hair. A bit of hair stood straight up and fell in his eyes, as he ran his delicate hand over his stubbly square jaw. "I don't know, Myce. I can't think of anything to do. My magic only extends so far, and we're already out of range. Plus, I haven't even touched Dan -- I don't know what he looks like. We can turn back, if you want to. . . Let's go below, and look at the map, maybe there's another way." Myce nodded in assension. "If anyone has any ideas, come tell me. I'm open to just about any plan."
