Date: Wed, 26 Jun 1996 09:17:12 EST From: Chris Vaughan Subject: INT: The Adventurers - Arturo eavesdrops Reserved: Arturo Angel (Janell) Tali (CK) Myce Elf (Kat) Tolstoy (Chris) "Vier Kreene?" "Vier Krielle?" The words were meaningless to Arturo, but they had also said "treasure", and that was a word he understood only too well. He had spent most of his life dreaming of gold coins and shimmering jewels while he sweltered his youth away in the musty alleyways of Dragon's Tooth. He leaned closer to the porthole and listened intently as the elf, the new girl with the crow, and that other girl talked. The elf said, "I'd hate to go on a wild goose chase, but that treasure sure would be worth it." "Hey, Tali. I was a stowaway, too, and Myce here took me on real kind like. She's a good one, nothing to fear. That ole' lion just likes ta make people sweat, but he's a big baby." Arturo felt a twinge of something in his gut. It was an unfamiliar sensation. Guilt? They talked some more and Arturo memorized every word. Then, just when it was starting to get good he felt warm breath on his neck. He turned and looked up into the glowing green eyes of Tolstoy. The lion growled a low-pitched growl that rumbled in the pit of Arturo's stomach. He smiled, nervously, edging back away from the lion. It watched his with angry eyes as he inched back. Then he felt something hard against his back. He had backed against the gunwale and was trapped. Tolstoy roared, his fierce maw inches from Arturo's face. The lion's breath seared his nostrils. "What's going on?" Myce Elf ran around the corner and came up beside Tolstoy. Arturo looked at her and shrugged, further enraging the giant cat. ____________________________________________________________ Chris Vaughan space.cowboy@worldnet.att.net http://members.tripod.com/~cvaughan/chris.html oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oo Visit The Soaps, the future web home of oo oo great, serialized stories! oo oo http://members.tripod.com/~cvaughan/thesoaps.html oo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
