I've been lurking in the corner for a couple of weeks now, putting off writing this thing (is that just like a writer, or what?). Since I've run out of excuses, and have a thing or two to say, I guess it's time to get it over with. ;-) The basics: I'm a single, middle-age male, and a life-long resident of Portland, Oregon. I share an apartment with a cat who adopted me one cold winter morning almost eight years ago. After two weeks of having him follow me everywhere I went just as though he were my shadow, I named him Shadow. (Pretty original, huh? What can I say, it's a gift. ;-) During the day I work for a nationwide office products wholesaler. If any of you had a Commodore 64 or 128 and were on Q-Link (AOL's predecessor) in the first few years of this decade, you may recall seeing a QGuide with a penchant for bad jokes and "broadcasting" classical SIDs, particularly the 1812 Overture. That was me, QGUIDE ae. (Am I the only one on this list who still has a C64 set up on his desk, fully functional?) I have wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. When I was 14, my best friend introduced me to Robert Heinlein's writings. It was love at first read, and a couple of years later I made an attempt at writing my own science fiction story. I never did finish that story, which is probably just as well since it was pretty terrible. Now I'm in my late forties and for the past several years I've been devoting varying amounts of my spare time to writing, mainly science fiction and horror. I'm also taking a novel-writing class at Mount Hood Community College. My classmates are mostly women who are writing romance novels, except for one other man who's writing a detective novel. Makes for an interesting evening of readings. ;-) So far I have one story finished, polished and yo-yo'ing between magazine publishers and myself in search of a home; a second story almost done; several others in various stages of completion; and a near-future novel that I am not giving up on despite the fact that I'm having major problems making headway with it. I guess that's about it. If you'd like to know more, feel free to go to my web page and see if you can find my semi-hidden "about me" page. ;-) Al ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- alevansjr@aol.com http://members.aol.com/alevansjr/ Portland, Oregon USA "Writing is easy.
