I'm a 41 year old actuary and manager, working for an Australian insurance company. Actually, for the last 5 years I've worked in Hong Kong. Right now, my family (wife and three children) have returned to Melbourne, Australia, and I'm living alone for the next 6 months in Hong Kong. I've decided to stay on for various reasons, not least because my employer wishes it, but I can't say I'm enjoying it. I love reading books, always have, and have a voracious appetitie for reading. (The best event EVER for readers outside the US is the advent of Amazon Books, I order many books from them.) I like some genre styles (am crazy about mystery and the better thrillers, and read certain types of sci-fi) but also read so-called literary fiction. But I'm a snob in one respect, I typically only read new books, the latest books, and rarely find myself reading older books. Why is this so? Who knows. In any event I'm kept busy reading the latest great books. One of my earliest desires was to become an author but I was quickly diverted. For the last two years, I've been contemplating a big shift. But family considerations, and a natural cowardice, have stopped me. So I'm writing part time, every day. It's fun and exciting. I've been watching Writers for a while. It's a very creative group, sometimes a bit off the wall, but hey, I say, they're writers. Right? Andres
