I love cheesy horror movies. Anyway, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I just subbed to this list last night. My name is Kim. I'm 26, single, I live in Alabama, and work in the District Attorney's office. Up until this point, I have mainly written short stories, journal type stuff, and what I call "story pieces" (which is basically just a scene or situation that pops into my head which could be a part of a novel but cannot stand on it's own) I am now trying my hand at a novel for the first time. It's a drama type, (very) loosely based on one of the cases we had at work. Problem is, I'm feeling a litle overwhelmed. I have a problem with taking things step by step. I start focusing on all of it and then can't make myself do anything. I have managed to sketch my characters and plot line in sort of a rough outline but I'm intimidated by the actual writing of it. It's not like writer's block. I know exactly what I want to write. I think I just built this up in my head so much that I'm afraid that I won't be able to live up to my expectations. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, does anyone know of any websites or list servers which send out weekly (or so) writing exercises? I tend to get totally absorbed into one thing (or nothing) and I could use a push to keep doing a bit of writing every day. Especially writing not related to this novel. Thanks! Kim
