Date: Tue, 12 Aug 1997 04:55:16 -0500 From: Fred Phillips Subject: Fill: belated bio I was just thinking that I've posted several things to the list, and I've never really told you anything about myself. Better late than never, I suppose. Hi, I'm Fred, and I'm a writer..... I hail from the buckle of the bible belt, originally N. Louisiana, currently S. Arkansas. There's not much difference, but I'm hoping to move to S. Louisiana soon, where people have lives. >=) I'm a journalist by trade, and while I don't always feel so lucky (especially on payday), I suppose I am lucky to be able to do something I love for a living. As far as my fiction writing goes, I mainly write fantasy thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien who hooked me on the genre many moons ago. I do sometimes break out and write other things, including occasional bad poetry (which no one but myself will ever see >=) ). Some of my favorite authors within the genre are Poe, Tolkien, Lovecraft, (Ok, so Poe and Lovecraft are not completely within the genre, but close enough) Moorcock, Terry Pratchett, Marion Zimmer Bradley, C.S. Lewis, and more recently Robert Jordan and Melanie Rawn. I also have to confess an attachment to the world of Dragonlance, as my e-mail addy indicates. Sometimes I feel like a film critic that secretly loves Jean Claude Van Damme movies. I know I shouldn't like it, but I can't help it. >=) I'm also a musician, and music is an important part of my life, including a source of inspiration for my writing. I play guitar and bass and dabble in several other instruments. I've played all kinds of music at one point or another, from blues to classic rock to death metal. Just about everything but country and rap, and I did pull a brief (very brief) stint in an all-acoustic band that bordered on country. My listening tastes are much the same, just about everything but country and rap, and my collection even holds a few of those cd's. I am a member of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, which, at the risk of sounding a bit sappy about it, has served the dual purpose of helping me unlock my creativity and helping me find peace with myself. That's about all that I think would be of any interest. I have a few other hobbies, but in light of recent debates on this list, I'll keep those to myself for the time being. Maybe those who are interested know a little more about me now. If anyone would like to further discuss any aspect of my rather mundane existence, feel free to e-mail me. ******************************************************** Fred Phillips raistlin@ipa.net The Hall of the Mountain King http://members.aol.com/spychocyco Literature, rock/metal album reviews, dragons, etc. *********************************************************
