Date: Thu, 16 Jul 1998 23:42:47 EDT From: "L. D. Sledge" Subject: [WRITERS] Newbie Bio Ok, I'm a Newbie to the group. Been watching for about a week and thought I'd jump in your game. I'm a writer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I've written three novels and lots of short stories and poems. Got one published, Dawn's Revenge, a thriller set in the New Orleans French Quarter where I lived for several years in my bad old good old days. You can read a chapter in www.ldsledge.com. ( noticed today my webguy has a few errors in the text I will have to fix, but it is ok) It was released at the end of April and sold 2,000 so far, and we're just about out of books. I have my contract back from the publisher and another publisher in LA has it and we are reworking it, and may even do a new cover, though the present cover is pretty awesome. The Governor of Louisiana is hosting a signing in the mansion, so I am pretty happy about that. My other two novels are unpublished yet, but I think they are pretty good. Command Influence is a story about a young lieutenant who goes against the military grain and does what he thinks is right and gets in big trouble, then he deliberately does the wrong thing to get out of it. It's a thriller of sorts, with a courtroom scene demouement at the end, a coming of age story and a tale of morality about the suffering from doing the right thing and suffering from doing the wrong thing. Musette, my fantasy, is pretty good. A screenwriter in LA liked it so much he did a treatment and walked it around to see about getting a cartoon or a CDROM game of it. I liked writing it best, for I read fantasy as one of my favorite genres. I've practiced law for too long and have tried to escape for many years. I'm single, with four kids behind me, most of them grown except my 12 year old who livesin Florida with his mom. I have a question, as a Newbie. When I have a short story I would like to share or have critiqued, can I send it as an attachment if I don't want to retype it anew in the mail. I don't know how to move text from a word processing file directly into the mail itself. AOL has a method to do this, but it won't translate as such to anyone but tho those with AOL 4.0. I'm on another couple of writers group online, one of which is the Planetary Writers Society, dealing mainly with fantasy and science fiction. Another is Critters--for critiqueing. I haven't surfaced on Critters yet, as your little group is more prolific and clearly more fun. ldsledge baton rouge ldsledge@aol.com www.ldsledge.com
