For those of you who don't know (everyone) and actually care (possibly small percentage), my name is Stephen Goobie. I'm a SF writer, just starting out. My first short story, "Let There Be Darkness" is being considered by Asimov's Magazine: it is the brief tale of a retired astronomer and war veteran in the future, in a time when urbanization and light pollution have made ground-based observing of the sky impossible. Basically, the old man builds a planetarium, and the government, not understanding its purpose, wants to tear it down. Simple. I have written one novel, "A Greater Control", but have placed this on the backburner and don't think I will try to get it published. Despite the encouraging words of the few who have read it, I don't think it is very good, and MUCH too complicated. Currently I am working on a story entitled "Singularity", a strange monologue by a supermassive black hole that becomes alive and self-aware. Not your average sililoquy. Why the focus on astronomical and cosmological topics? I am past the middle-mark of my Astrophysics degree at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I hold a summer research position observing pulsating stars at our large--a matter of perspective--department telescope, 24 floors up on top of the university residence building. My other interests include hiking and Zen Buddhism... (possibly a result of each other) So, in a nutshell, that's me, the nut. I look forward to contributing to this list and getting to know some of the members! Stephen Goobie goobie@hercules.stmarys.ca
