Date: Thu, 13 Nov 1997 17:31:14 +0100 From: An-tAthair-Siorai Press Gp Subject: SUB: CONTEST: With Prizes!! Following the undoubted success of the Halloween contest, I propose a short pre-Christmas contest to keep everyone on their toes. Drabble Writing Contest. A Drabble is a short piece of descriptive prose using exactly one hundred words, excluding the title. It should require no explanatory notes or asides and be complete within itself. Hyphenated words count as two separate words unless defined as such in the OED. Entries should be sent direct to me at: litterateur@t-online.de from whence they will be forwarded to the entire list for criticism and judging. All entries will have names and details of the writer removed before appearing on the list. The Drabbles - writers may enter as many as they wish - should come under the subjects of 'Emotion' or 'Vision' or a combination of the two. Foul language is considered unnecessary; there are enough descriptives in the English language to render all obscenities obsolete. Entries must have a subject line: DRABBLE: . The subject headings will be changed before submission to the list. The special subject heading is to differentiate contest mail from the 2500 - 3000 other items of mail I receive each day. Closing date for entries is 30 November 1997. Judging will be through the list and finish by 10 December 1997 with the results being announced a few days later. Judging will be direct to: litterateur@t-online.de on a points system. The best Drabble receives three points, the second best two points and the third choice one point. Tne Drabbles receiving the highest points will win. All contest entries may be criticised on the list in the normal fashion. Prizes. First prize will be a copy of 'No Passion Spent: Essays 1978-1996' by George Steiner, published by Faber and Faber, 1996. Second and third prizes will be a copy each of 'Lacrimae Rerum: Last Poems (1985)' by Nicholas Moore, published by Open Township & Poetical Histories, 1988.
