Date: Tue, 12 Nov 1996 17:11:57 -0500 From: BARBARA HARRIS Subject: INT: EmJay: HHR, part 2 Reserved: Barbara?Bunny/Hagatha (the three faces of Barbara) Charles (the Virtual Handyman) Lady Colleen and Lord Seamus, thoroughbred Irish Setters Damian and Angela (Barbara's Inner Voice) Barbara stopped thrumming the desk and looked up with a smile as Bunny and Hagatha breezed in together. "Wow! Am I ever glad to see the two of you. I always feel a little lost when you're not around... as if part of me is missing!" Bunny hugged her and then stared at her. "Why did you call us out of our Crystal City story? That story is *never* going to get written with the way you or someone else keeps taking us out of it! Not to mention that half the other characters keep getting preoccupied elsewhere." "I'm sorry, but it's the EmJays. For some reason, they've come early this year. And this year we have to *campaign*! I needed your help! I don't want us to lose those Best Character and Most Romantic EmJays. The Haven needs them. Aren't you willing to help?" Bunny sniffed. "Well, yeah, I guess. I got separated from that darned Frog and my other Doc anyway. But hey, aren't you missing a few characters? What about Chloe Frog and the Weird Sisters and that boy Alonso, and Darkstar and Morningstar and their Granny Godwyn... why don't you make them all help too?" Barbara tried to ignore the "Darned Frog" remark. It never seemed a good idea to bug Bunny when she was in one of her contrary moods... the other remarks seemed safer to respond to. "Hmmmm... well maybe if we find we need more help we can bring them up too... we'll see." She looked questioningly at Hagatha, still in her youthful mode. Such flair with that midnight velvet cape, which swirled about her with every step, silver stars twinkling like the night sky. "Hagatha, don't you think you could play the crone again when we go to campaign? It might get us the votes from the senior citizens around here." Hagatha gazed back at her with the same blue eyes, making Barbara feel as if she was looking in some odd mirror. She stomped a blue suede boot and shook long dark hair, so different from Barbara's blonde hair, and said loudly, "NO! I'm tired of being the one who has to play the crone all the time. I like this look and this outfit, and if you want my help , this is what I'll wear! I hope you're going to change out of that disgusting shirt and the self-abusive attitude that goes with it! It doesn't do a thing for you!" Barbara scowled, looking down at her hair shirt and finally giving in to an urge to scratch. "Well, okay to both... but just shapeshift once in a while... that should provide some entertainment value. I guess Charles can work the seniors... that white beard is pretty impressive. And everyone... let me tell you this... I do NOT want *anyone* kissing any babies. In fact... you might even try pinching a couple, discreetly of course. I think, Charles, that you should carry a picket sign nominating LL for List Babysitter. I definitely want to be free of that obligation this year. Do you all understand?" Lady Colleen and Lord Seamus walked in from the Garden just in time to hear these last words. Seamus said, "Really Barbara, no babies? Well I suppose we could growl... that'd make them cry. You wouldn't want us to go so far as to bite, would you? And pinching? Don't you think that's a trifle extreme?" "Ach! You're probably right, Seamus. Definitely, no biting. But I know we've lost the Most Agreeable EmJay anyway. Hey... who do you think should have that?" "Our adorable Librarian, CatherineB, of course. Who else stays out of all flamewars and is unflaggingly cheerful and good humored?" Charles blushed as he spoke the words. "Why, Charles, I think you have a crush! Seamus, Charles suggested you and Colleen should try for List Pair. What do you think? Can you stop fighting and look like the perfect couple for a few hours of campaigning ?" "Well, Barbara, of course we can! How do you think we won our blue ribbons?" asked Colleen. "We only fight in *private!*" "Yes... of course. Okay... everyone go plan what to wear, will you? Oh, Charles! A little bird told me that you should play Santa Claus for Christmas this year... how about dressing the part for the campaign?" Damian snorted and muttered, "A little bird, huh? Do you think this flake knows what she's doing? The kids will eat up Santa!" Charles said, "Can I wear a tartan suit? If it's a red tartan?" Barbara had already started up her spiral staircase, on her way to bathe and change, and didn't hear either Damian or Charles. Hagatha answered for her, "Sure, Sweetie, come on... I'll whip you up a spiffy Scottish Santa suit in the HoloSuite. That's where I made my outfit. It won't take any time at all. Your emerald green tam will even match beautifully!"
