Date: Sat, 7 Dec 1996 17:07:31 -0500 From: "Donna M. Buschmeier" Subject: INT: Emjays - Better Late Than Never... By the time The Lady in Black finally managed to disentangle herself from her multitude of otherworldly obligations and got around to transporting herself to wherever in the blue blazes The Emjays Awards Ceremony was taking place, the huge hall was draped in shadows. "Hello?" Niniane asked tentatively, gliding out onto the darkened stage. "Is anyone out there?" "Just us mice," came some squeaks that Niniane, being a enchantress, was able to translate. "Just us mice." "Hmmm..." The Lady in Black tossed some stray strands of long dark hair back over her shoulder and crossed her arms. *Well, no matter,* she thought to herself. After all, she wasn't very adept at public speaking anyway. Truth be told, it made her rather nervous... and when she was nervous, she not only blushed, but tended to glow rather brightly as well... which tended to make hiding her nervousness rather difficult at times. "Well," she said aloud, "they won't be able to see me, but I think I can arrange for them to hear me." She closed her dark brown eyes and began to concentrate. Her delicate forehead wrinkled slightly as her lips parted and she began to chant: "...ahna nathrak... uthbas betat... dohier dienue..." She repeated the words over and over again as a filmy column of smoke rose up from beneath her feet and began to envelop her in its vaporous arms. "Congratulations to the winners one and all," she murmured, directing her words into the cosmos where they would mingle with the molecules of all that was and all that would be. In time, the words would find their way into the mind of each inhabitant of the mysterious realm known as WRITERS. "And a special bravo to that devilish diva, Woofie, for sweeping so many categories..." "Plus a huge round of applause to MJ for organizing the whole gala in such a timely fashion..." Niniane sighed. She was growing weary. Such a powerful spell was quite draining on her small, black-cloaked form. "And finally, a thank you to those who nominated me in so many different categories." The whisper of a smile tugged gently at her lips and a faint blush colored her cheeks. "Some were quite surprising. Especially the Favorite Short Story category. Tough competition there. I am immensely honored to have been considered, especially since I don't even sub very much fiction." The Lady in Black sucked in a large breath and opened her eyes. Her strength was failing her. This couldn't go on much longer, yet there was still one last thing she wanted to say. A playful glint shimmered in her eyes. "And, to whoever voted for me in the Wouldn't Kick Out of Bed category, I hope you will consider whether or not you would want to find me in your bed in the first place." A broad smile wreathed Niniane's lips. "After all, one must possess a particular stamina to tolerate the strains of magic... ESPECIALLY in bed..." And with that, she was gone... ;-) ;-) ;-) *************************************************************** *************************************************************************** Donna M.
