Subject:      [WRITERS] FILLER: The Death of WRITERS...

[someone recently felt moved to tell me in private email that this
list will surely fail, because I am allowing too much...too much of
something they don't like, I'm sure.  They wanted to make sure I
understood that unless I take a firm hand, crack down and make you
people get serious, well...It will be my fault when the list fails.
In case others feel it necessary to assure me that this will be a
short-lived list...]

We celebrated our 8th birthday February 13, 1998.

The founder of the list was Ray Wheeler.  I believe he moved on to
other pursuits some time ago, but I'm not really sure of the details.
I've only been with the list about five years, and listowner since it
moved to MIT about three years ago.

As for the membership...it's over 1,250 and still climbing.

So I think I can say fairly confidently that rumors of WRITERS death
are a bit premature...
