Subject: Re: [WRITERS] TECH: Copyright :) Date: Tue, 07 Apr 1998 08:50:09 BST :) From: geli wischner :) :) Hi all, :) :) reading this about copyright, a few questions comes up: :) :) Is it ok for me to print a text I read here on this list and put it up :) on my wall, or (rarely as it happens- reminder:live in Germany) show it :) to someone else to share my fun and admiration? :) Or do I already violate copyright? strictly, legally...it is a violation of copyright. reasonably, it is probably okay. Of course, if you show it to your friend who is the editor of...hum, can't think of a German magazine off-hand, but one of those...and they get excited, please ask before letting them publish it. :) Would you people want me to ask your permission off-list before I :) actually do it? :) I remember telling Pete I was going to keep on of his texts, he/you :) didn't object to it then. In most cases, no problem. If you are going to forward it to another list--yes, I'd ask. If you are planning to print out 100 copies and circulate them, yes, you should probably ask. If you are going to give one copy to a "friend" who loves to run copies off and hand them out at the shopping center...well, yes, you may want to ask. Consider how you would feel if it was your work and someone did whatever you are thinking of with your work--would you want them to ask? Then do. tink
