It had been an hour. She stepped out of the car and went looking for Bly. "You better not be wasting my time!" She found him. "Of course not, sir. In fact, I can promise you this is the best thing you will ever do in your career." "Is that so?" He was astounded by her vanity. "Of course it is, where should I begin?" He motioned her to a chair in front of a camera. "This is a screen test. I say action, you read the script with as much feeling as possible. Try and make me believe it." "Anything you say," she tossed her head. "Whenever you are ready." She emerged an hour later to find Jeff leaning on the edge of his car, smoking a cigarette. "This simply won't do. We have to get you a new car," she walked over and adjusted his lapels. She took his cigarette. "I know the perfect place. We can get a brand new--" "Where am I getting the money for this new car?" "It's covered, Hon. Oh, would you like to witness the signing of the contract?" "You got it?" She eyed him suspiciously for a moment. "Was there ever any doubt?" "No, I don't think there was. Let's get you signed." They walked together back into Bly's office. The signing took a few minutes and then they were on their way to the casino. "I hope you know what you are doing, Reine." "Of course I do, Jeff. Oh, and my name isn't Reine anymore." "Really?" "The contract is for Nora Hampton." At the Janitor's Closet, she showed her new pick card. The door man glanced it over and admitted them. "Nora. Of course." They emerged into the massive underground casino. Lareine's face brightened. "Let's go have some fun. A little gamble, a little drink," she leaned to him, her lips tickling his ear and whispered, "a maybe a little something else later on." He looked at her as she wove her way quickly to the roulette table. He Reeled his jaw back up and followed behind her. He came up beside her as she laid a hefty bet on double zero. "It'll never happen," he said. "See the proctor of this table?" she whispered into his ear, "That's Javier. He's been working for Tony for three years. He has a thing for blondes." The ball struck double zero. "And we have a winner." Javier sent the money towards Reine. "Who me?" She sounded so shocked, and stupid. "Oi can't believe it!" Jeff hid a smile. She was talented girl. Then she pushed the money out, "13." He urgently pulled her back, "13 is a bad choice. It's--" "Unlucky? Trust me." She ran her finger along his jaw line and suddenly he couldn't argue with her." The bet was placed. The wheel spun slower and slower until the click and Javier's smile, "13 for the lovely lady." Three hours later, they left. Overall Reine had recognized 15 employees, four of whom would most likely gladly hand over Tony DeLauro, and won them 450 dollars. "The first time is always a big win," she explained as they got in the car. "The second time more win than loss, the third time even, the fourth time more win than loss and then after that, good luck." "You amaze me." "The sun is setting. Lets go out to the Hills, watch it slip." "If I'm not careful I might slip." "You are thinking out loud again, Jeff. Come on, be a sport." She smiled at him, her lips writing promises Jeff was hesitant to cash. to be continued ************************************************** Robyn Alyson tHe OnLy DiFfErEnCe BeTwEeN FaNtAsY aNd ReAlItY iS pErCePtIoN
