"We'll never make it, Jeff." "Make it where?" "This isn't the time for--" she screamed as the car swept passed the four men who ducked and scrambled for their car. "Son of a--" she took the gun and hung out the passenger window. "Stop the car, Jeff!" "Are you out of your mind?" "Damn it! Stop the car!" He slammed on the brakes and the car gradually came to a stop. The four men were climbing into their sedan. Four shots from the gun in her hand rang into the night. She turned to him, "What are you waiting for an engraved invitation? Go!" He slammed the gas pedal. "Got the tires, it will hold them off long enough for us to get a new car." She settled into the seat, shooting a smile his direction. "Where did you learn to shoot like that?" "We need to go back to the office you met me at this morning. There is a car there we can use. It will get us out of this town for a few days." "Was that only this morning?" "Of course it was. Come on, don't be stubborn. I don't want anything to happen to either of us." She lit another cigarette. "You know those things will kill you?" Jeff said, lighting a lucky, hoping to lighten up the dead-set look of her face. "Not as quickly as Tony if we don't get the hell out of this town, Jeff." She looked out at the passing road. "Whose car is waiting for us at the office? "Mine." "Why don't you take it and drive out of town." "You think I tipped them off, don't you?" She turned to him and for the first time he saw a cold, hard side of her. "If I wanted you dead, I could have done it myself. I didn't tip them off." The car drifted to a stop at a red light. Lareine stepped out of the car. "What are you doing?" "Leaving, Jeff. I'm going to get out of here while I still can. I would suggest you do the same. Traffic's backing up, you better go." She slammed the door and disappeared into the night. to be continued..... ************************************************** Robyn Alyson tHe OnLy DiFfErEnCe BeTwEeN FaNtAsY aNd ReAlItY iS pErCePtIoN
