But it was just undergoing some construction work - so, now, back to the continuing tale: ---------- Robyn (who gets my endorsement for 'list kid') wrote: >In the shadows, The Squisher noticed the women bristling to the man. They then looked at their other new guest, who had just come from around the corner. And, once again, they stared at each other, wondering why the other had known his name. No one moved. Mark, the mutual ex-boyfriend of the two women, stood staring at them, wishing he was somewhere very far away. He then glanced at the sneezing shadow. The silent, spying image in the darkness looked at the man, then the women, then at his handkerchief, which he had just used to wipe his running nose. He then said "Yuk," and looked once more at the women. Then the man. Meanwhile, Wanda and Morgan stared at each other. Then Morgan looked at the pepper spray-key chain which she had instinctively grabbed from her purse. Wanda peered into the distance at her stalled car, then back to her ex-boyfriend Mark, then at Morgan's pepper spray. Mark had figured it out. Morgan and Wanda must have seen 'The First Wives' Club' and decided to take it a few steps further. He surmised they hired this shadowy hit-man to get rid of him. Wanda had figured it out. Her ex-boyfriend Mark had somehow followed her into the dessert, planning some terrible mischief. The other woman, with her deadly pepper spray, must be in cahoots. And the person in the darkness must be their partner, and the three of them, Wanda reasoned, will probably try to rape her or something. Morgan had figured it out. Wanda and the stranger in the darkness had this set-up, with the fake, 'stalled' car and everything. She knew Mark was behind it all, and figured it must have been one of them who had sabatoged her car. She realized she surely had had plenty of gas and they had poked a hole in her gas tank or something and then rushed here to wait in ambush for her. Shirly had figured it out. She, due to the trauma of the situation, was lingering just behind Morgan's blue eyes, threatening a quick come-back, long before the 12-hour stall the medicine had created. She knew that this stranger in the darkness and the other stranger who had run around the corner must be the partners of this strange woman. And, to top it all off, her other-self, Morgan, was probably in on it too. The evil wanderer in the shadows had figured it out. It must be the flu, he thought, looking once again at his handkerchief. Yep, he'd come down with the flu. Bummer. --To be continued-- ------------------------------ Once upon a time there was a planet called earth and people called humans. And a writers' list called the Writers' List. On this list were many writers. And writing was the theme of the list. And writing was the purpose of this list. There was also, within this list, a phenomenon known as the signature. And this signature often contained much profundity and wisdom. All this is not myth. It happened. Once upon a time.
