I didn't think mine stood a chance of showing, much less placing, considering the strength of the field. I was most impressed by the consistent level of quality of the entries this year, and their effectiveness. I must say that this batch of stories has raised a niggling concern in me. It's probably not a big deal, but ... for a couple of years, vampires dominated the entries, but this year... well, did anyone else notice a tendency toward knife-wielding maniacs? I don't mean to make it sound important or ominous, and it certainly didn't disturb me, oh, no, but -- well, it was a bit odd. No doubt this leaning has its roots in the newpapers and tv, the world around us, more than, say, werewolves, would. And also, no doubt, it's a tendency that may be a momentary blip on the WRITERS map. By the way, if any of you WRITERS are passing through Syracuse this year, I'm not home. Thanks again, all. Thanks, also, to Robyn, for sponsoring the contest, and congratulations to the other winners, especially the author of "Dreamboat", Raini Madden. Way to go.
