After gazin at the wringer washer for hours and Li'l Brick still didn't know what in tarnation the thing wuz, he come up with a plan. "Yeah, she shore is prutty but how good does she work?" Li'l Brick thanked his lucky stars that he had some smarts. "I'll git some clothes what needs washin." Daisy Mae dashed inna the house and come out with an arm load of stiff, work clothes. Momma covered her eyes with her plump hands cuz the excitement was gittin too much. Pa shuffled over to her, got her in a bear hug and rubbed his knuckles on the top her skull. Momma blushed, "You quit that foolin around in front of the younguns." Daisy crammed the stiff clothes inna the wringer washer, flipped the switch and stared as the contraption beat the dirt outta Pa's long underwear. Li'l Brick stepped up closer to git a better look. "What's them roller things for?" "Me and Momma think ya run the clothes threw them to squish the creek water out." Without gittin the go ahead, he scooped up a hand full of long underwear and touched them to the lips of the rollers. Them rollers grabbed the underwear and chewed the water out. But they didn't stop with jist the underwear, they nabbed Li'l Brick's fingers and chewed on them awhile, too. Li'l Brick let loose of a scream what would make the cows give milk early and Pa jumped to the rescue and turned the contraption off. Daisy pried them jaws apart, held the red, flattened hand in her own and helped Li'l Brick inna the house to soak it in cool creek water. Them two sat at the kitchen table right close and Daisy said, "Oh no, Li'l Brick, this is your gun hand. What will you do if there's trouble in town?" He grinned kinda sly like, "Yeah and it's my lovin hand, too. What am I gonna do if I meet up with a prutty little thang?" "WHAT?!!!" A blur of printed cotton stormed inna the kitchen. "You is lookin for some lovin?! Don't you worry 'bout that. I'll give you some lovin. With this here broom stick I'm totin!!" Momma done had the broom held up over her head and she brung it down across Li'l Brick's back. Li'l Brick hollered, "You can't do this, ma'am! I'm the law in this here town!" "And I'm the law in this here house!" With every word, Momma brung the broom stick across Li'l Brick's back until he done run out the front door.
