    "Why me?" I said when I drew his name for the pair hike.
    I race, jump up steep parts, beat the time.
    He is slow.  Step by step, he moves his canes.  A slow walk on a
safe path.
    Why climb if you can't go fast?
    I hid my face as friends sped by.  They would reach the top first.
    He sat down, and pushed green ferns back to show me a web.  Threads
of air and mist spread in the quiet.
    We didn't reach the top that day, but I asked to walk with him once
more.
