Date: Sun, 28 Feb 1999 13:17:49 EST From: "Barbara J. Harris" Subject: [WRITERS] ALL: Spring Fiesta Contest! Hi Y'All, ***Please remove ALL: from the subject line and replace with FILL: if replying to this post on list! Thankyou!!!*** Well, I have collaborated with Tink, taken Weston's suggestion into account, and come up with the following contest to keep us occupied for Spring. Please read the following carefully to avoid confusion... thankyou. :) 1. Contest entries must be sent to **BarbHare@aol.com**, NOT to the list, between the Vernal Equinox (March 21) and Earth Day (April 22), due by midnight, Eastern Standard Time. {Please note that is not my usual AngusAgnes addy... I'm trying something new here to keep the contest posts from getting lost in the deluge.} I will repost them to the list without headers in order to preserve anonymity. This way, the work gets voted on rather than the author. All members of the WRITERS listserv are welcome and encouraged to participate, even you silent lurker types. :) Please note in your header which category the sub is entered in, and the title. 2. There are four categories for this contest. Each list member is welcome to enter all four categories, and limited to one entry per category. Entries must be *new* material, not work formerly posted to WRITERS. Be sure to polish those submissions before sending to BarbHare@aol.com... changes will not be allowed once the work is reposted to the list. The categories are: A. Renaissance Short Story. Write a short story, maximum 4000 words, that includes the concept of Renaissance, Rebirth, or Renewal. It could be about the Vernal Equinox, Passover, Easter, or Spring in general. It could even be about renewing your decorating scheme... it's up to you! B. Renaissance Poem. Write a poem on the same themes as above. C. April Fool's Short-Short. Write a short-short story, maximum 500 words, on the theme of a prank or joke, or about jesters, fools, trickster gods, or any tomfoolery you care to tackle. D. Earth Day Essay. Write an essay, maximum 4000 words, about Nature, Environmental Concerns, Wildlife Gardening, Endangered Species, whatever you feel fits with the Earth Day theme and expresses your personal concerns for our environment and how we can better take responsibility and nurture it. 3. Voting will take place from April 24-midnight EST on April 30... guidelines for voting will be posted at that time. 4. Yes, there will be prizes. :) First place winners in each category may choose between a piece of custom designed handcrafted jewelry from Rock Garden Crafts, or another item of my choosing, as yet to be determined. Winners will, of course, have to supply me with snail mail addy! 5. To participate fully in the contest, it is suggested that you keep both SUB and INT among your chosen topics. I will be posting some informational pieces related to the themes for submissions under INTeractive to provide inspiration! Anyone else is also welcome to do the same! Also, the award May Day Fiesta and announcement of winners will be held under INT. 6. If anyone would like to volunteer to verify the counting of votes, please contact me! 7. Any questions or concerns or contest related comments, please send to me at this BarbHare@aol.com addy! Happy Writing... Love & Light, Barbara
