Date: Mon, 30 Jun 1997 13:01:06 -0500 From: Phanny Subject: ALL: CONTEST: ANNOUNCEMENT If you reply to this message, please DO NOT use "ALL" in the subject line. Voting for the Summer Writing Contest is ongoing through midnight July 8, 1997. 26 authors submitted 39 works, and 5 have voted. Please remember, if you submitted to the contest, you *must* vote in the category you entered, at a minimum. You are welcome to vote in all categories, as are all members of WRITERS. Submissions are on the web at: http://web.mit.edu/mbarker/www/sum97/summer.html Winners will be announced on July 9, 1997. I received a very kind offer from Tommy Carter, one of our list members, regarding contest winners. Tommy is involved with the E-zine, EWG Presents, a journal of contemporary thought and fiction. He and his editor have offered to publish the winning poems and prose, with permission from authors involved. You may take a look at this E-zine at: http://members.aol.com/ewgroup100/index.htm So get those votes in. You have 8 more days after today to vote, which is particularly important if you submitted. You will lose points if you don't vote in categories you entered. The next WRITERS contest will be a short one. It will take place entirely in August. You'll have all of July to write. Submissions will be accepted the first or second week of August, with a voting period after that, and winner/author announcements before the end of August. I will announce exact dates soon; I have to work around my vacation and other commitments. The same 3-month rule will apply -- submissions must not have been posted to WRITERS within the past 3 months. We are already within that time frame, so don't send your contest subs to the list. Submissions will be 200 words, not including title. No titles longer than one line. Prose only. Move us in some way; make us feel something powerful, emotional, or otherwise. Evoke a memory. See how much power you can pack into 200 words. Not an easy assignment! More on this after the summer contest is over.
