Don't submit something for the contest that has been on the list in the past few weeks. The idea is to have authors remain anonymous and work judged on its own merit, which is one of the ways you can really find out what others think of it. Try to do something new. Contests are good exercises in writing for a deadline on a specific topic. The topic of glass can have many interpretations, but try to think of something novel. Broken glass is a tired, old subject, but you might be able to put a new, creative twist on it. Think of everything loosely related to glass. The prize may well be a paperweight, art in glass. Think of all the glass used in your life. There is glass in some jewelry. Mirrors, vases, windows, and some glass is colored or frosted, not clear. Glass is used in science and other industries -- beakers, instruments, etc. Some ppl paint on glass. Have you ever heard of glass tadpoles? I won't tell you what they are, but they are quite interesting! Eye glasses, molten glass, computers, pieces of worn glass washing up on beaches. Fibreglass. Glass eyes. Microscopes and other precision instruments. Cameras. Binoculars. Telescopes. Syringes. And what about all those window washers on city buildings? Glass doesn't have to be serious; it can be fun. Did you know that one of the main ingredients in glass is sand? Don't forget to send your work privately to me. I will send it to the list without your name. The contest submission will arrive under the heading SUB: CONTEST. Please label your submission to me the same, so I can easily pick it out of the crowd. Be sure to title your work. Voting is based on titles. Phanny
