[some of the little messages I've included hinting at a problem on messages stuck in the pipes have created confusion, so I will proceed to aggravate the situation...] Hi, all. We are going to try an experiment in explanation, compounded by the slight difficulty that the explanation may trigger the problem, in which case you won't see this, so ignore it. Okay? [are we confused yet? good!] Assuming you are reading this, remember that "THE LIST" below would ordinarily be "WRITERS@mitvma.mit.edu" or "WRITERS " The reason I didn't leave them down there is that the message would definitely get picked up and held for me by listserv, since it might be an error report, if I left the lines alone... So assume I wrote this as a reply, including the message I am replying to with the header lines (with the real name of the list in place). When listserv sees the lines with Reply-To, Sender, From, maybe To with the name of our list in them, it thinks ... "this might be an error. I will hold it for the listowner." and your message sits, waiting for me to get to it, clip out the problem lines, and put it back in the flow of things...(imagine a funny little dog panting over your message, giving up its little prize to me, and being upset when I toss it back into the works...) So, let's all repeat--we will clean our included headers, removing any line that has the name of the list...to keep the machinery grinding finely. uncryptic? tink > Date: Sat, 23 Nov 1996 09:14:56 -0500 > Reply-To: THE LIST > Sender: THE LIST > From: a random member of the list > Subject: Filler: chaos in your bathtub with a rubber duckie > To: Multiple recipients of list THE LIST when you sit upon a rubber duckie in the bath, if the temperature is hot enough, you may discover... :-) [did you see this? did you read it? did it make any sense whatsoever?]
